7.3 liter question

So I am getting ready to purchase a 2003 F250 with the 7.3 liter. 306,000 miles. Buying well below blue book value. Had the truck inspected by a certified mechanic and it all looked good. It's only going to be a weekend tow rig for a 7500 fully loaded travel trailer. Bumper hitch. My main question is this. What can I be expected to have to repair in the near future with so many miles? Price for repairs? Probably an impossible question to answer, but any kind of heads up on known problems is greatly appreciated.

Hope for nothing and plan for everything. It all really depends on who owned it before you, how they used it and what they did to maintain it.

If it was properly maintained you shouldn't have problems. I would inspect front end suspension components, ball joints, u-joints, hubs, etc...that stuff should have been replaced at least once at that mileage. There is a buyers guide stickied in the 7.3L forum with tons of good info on the engine stuff.

Transmission, rear end, engine, anything can break. That is a ton of miles on a truck, even the "legendary" 7.3. In before the 7.3 worshipers claim that it will go 1 million miles without work...

lol, 280k on my 7.3 with normal maintenance and trans rebuild. I believe 250k is the recommended factory R&R on the 7.3, but I've personally seen 500k+ trucks running engines that have never been cracked opened for anything.

That said, everything wrapped around the engine/trans (the truck itself) will suffer from mileage the same as any other vehicle.

You plan to pull a nearly 8k trailer from the bumper? Or you mean versus a goosneck/5th wheel? I hope at that weight this truck has a receiver hitch and trailer brake controller.

So you call replacing injector cups normal maintenance? Have fun with that.... Enjoy your oil pan replacement and replacing every o-ring on that pig.

I did have fun with that, and I didn't have to lift the cab for any of it

I was under the impression 6.0 required lifting the cab to service the inevitable blown head gaskets, no?

Not required to lift the cab for that, although most people lift the cab or pull the motor.

If it was take care of I wouldn't worry about anything.

I have owned this truck since sub 100k and have never had a valve cover off.

1 set of ball joints 270k, one transmission at 220K, transfer case at 330k, 2 water pumps, 3 HP power steering hoses, a carrier bearing at 340K and 2 alternators.

And of course routine tires, brakes and oil changes when necessary.
