question 7.3 or ?

I'm looking to buy a used diesel from what I've read so far it seems that I should be leaning towards the 7.3 any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

7.3 is a great engine, Its not gonna be a powerhouse like the newer engines can be. what are looking to do with the truck.

JMHO...If you want to ride 7.3
If you like to walk, cuss & **** money away 6.0-6.4
All bs aside I don't believe you can beat the reliability of the 7.3, if you want something to race or pull with you can make big #'s with the others but for how long.
Whenever I get to thinking about getting a newer truck it all comes back to "how long did they make the 6.0 or 6.4 & the 6.7 hasn't been out long enough to make an opinion & I surely don't want the first couple years of anything (let someone else be the guinea pig)"

Thanks for the reply. I plan on using the truck for every day use, and towing a 3,000lb camper trailer, and a 5,000lb boat. I live in San Diego and go camping a lot, and usually travel about 300 to 500 miles round trip to camp.

I've had my '99 7.3 for 4-1/2 years now, 189,000 miles plus and I've put on 101,000 of them. She left me stranded once, and only once. The AIH got wired up incorrectly and the fusible links burned out, causing there to be no voltage to my GPR. This happened during the coldest week of Winter in Wyoming. got her towed home, plugged her in, and fired her up to go get the parts to fix her. $30 and an hour or so later and she was good. Been that way for 3 years now.

I don't beat on or race my truck. Maybe even drive like "old crippled grandpa" but I get good mileage and nothing breaks. Things wear out (ball joints, tires, shocks, etc.) but she's been so awesome that when I bought an Excursion a month or so back, it had to be a 7.3.

My old man has a 2002 7.3 f250 and his wife has got a 2001 7.3 excursion. I had to follow in the footsteps and got a 99 7.3 f250. Neither of them or I have had any problems. Just regular maintenance and typical replacements (starters, ball joints, etc.). The 02 has 340,000 mi and just got a new tranny and the excursion has 230,000 and my 99 has 287,000. IMHO you cant beat the reliability of the 7.3. I just talked to a guy today who had a 6.0 and asked him if hes had to replace injectors and he said hes done it twice! All 8 at that. Everyone in the family swears not to get rid of their 7.3's. Once the engine goes out or tranny drops then you can just sleave it or get a new tranny.

7.3 is a hauss. 'Nuff Said.

Having owned a 6.0L and now a 7.3, I'd have to say go with a 7.3. I read that as long as you make the right modifications to the 6.0, it is a good motor. However, it seemed like I was always having problems and always making modifications. No matter what I did, there was more to do.

That being said, my 7.3 is a great truck. As for power, I have made some mods in that department and I think this truck is significantly faster than my 6.0. Both had similar mods, but my 7.3 has phenominal power. I wouldn't go back for anything. I think you are on the right track with a 7.3. Just know you can get the power out of her if you want. Might cost some $$$$, but worth it in the end. Then you have the power and reliability.

I have a friend with a 6.0 X, I have a 2000 7.3 F-350. His truck has been at the dealer as much as he has had it, mine hasn't yet.

Stay with the 7.3! Injectors on the 6.0 are a pain in the a$$. I am looking to upgrade in a couple of years. Hopefully the 6.7 follows in the footsteps of the 7.3 or I find another low mileage 7.3, if not, I may have to go to a Dodge and spend the money for a good trans.

what would you consider low miles for a 7.3?

All depends on how well it was maintained I suppose. Figure 12k a year miles is about average. divide it up by the age. My truck has 94k miles, My truck is not loaded down and driven hard a lot though.
