Figured out that after you punch in your code on the keypad on the door if you press 5, the tailgate drops. Not quite sure what I would use that for but I guess you learn something new every day.

Thanks for that!
I'll like that because you need the fob with you for the tailgate to unlock and I regularly run out to my truck without my keys at my house and office and grab things from my truck using the keypad but always have to go in and grab my keys if I need in the locked tailgate on my 2011.
Edit: I have a bed cover so I toss stuff in there all the time and have to lower the tailgate to get in.
Nice, and you probably know this, but for others who may read this thread that are new to the door codes, if you hit the 3/4 button after your code, it'll unlock all doors, and if you hit 7/8 and 9/0 at the same time, it'll lock all doors (no need for pin before).
Thanks. Another great use of the keypad. Ford recently did a study to see how many people actually use the keypad; I think they would like the phase it out. Personally, I hope they never do. Helps set Fords apart from the rest.
Of course you could just use the keypad to unlock all doors and then hit the tailgate switch in the cab to lower the gate.
Alternately, you cannot drop the gate from inside the truck while moving...tried that.
I don't think Ford will be phasing out the keypad, but expanding on it. I saw on another site where they have a patent for a 'touchscreen' keypad that allows you to set a series of swipes and the like for your 'pin' to enter your vehicle.
I love the keypad, and don't understand why Ford is the only one that does it.

The "touch pad" is already in use on certain Ford and Lincoln vehicles...it doesn't work nearly as well as the raised, rubbery keys we have on the trucks. If you have the smart key in your pocket, you can just swipe the keypad down to unlock the doors.
Personally, I prefer the horizontal orientation as opposed to the new vertical style we have now.
Nissan used to have this many years back on the Maxima. But now Ford is it.

I mis-remembered a bit. The device is actually on the fob, and it does mention possibly removing it from the door (not Ford's words, mind you).

I don't know why I thought this was funny. Not sure why you would ever need to drop the tailgate while driving, but I know there are so many things I've done just because I was curious...

I did it to try and freak out the driver behind me (making sure there was adequate room to do so). Unfortunately it did not work!

I could picture an open cup full of BB's taped to the tailgate to implement "Back off motha f" or a model machine gun mounted in the bed!

Now that's an idea! I was imagining where the tailgate dropped and an oil slick was released, or a bunch of spike strips. Anyone remember the "Spy Hunter" game from the 1980s?

And who can forget James Bond in the early 007 movies.
