So it's just moma, me and Jr. although Jr. is growing like a weed but I really want the 6.5 bed to throw a 12-14 jon boat in or a canoe and figure 95 percent of the time it's just me anyway and worry about overall all length and parking etc. and when I go by a dealer they have 25 Super Crews and maybe 1 Supercrew. As far as resale I'm thinking there have got to be guys like me that want the longer bed and are not hauling 4 or 5 adults and my truck would sell quick and at a premium. Before I buy buy one am I totally wrong in my thinking and will find it hard to sell and lower resale?
From the people I work with and have talked to that have trucks we've all agreed that interior space is what we were looking for over bed length. I don't often carry stuff in the bed that is longer than 8'. And when I do carry longer stuff I have one of these Truck Bed Extender.
You could even get a roof style rack that would carry a canoe.
Don't buy for resale in three, five or however many years. These trucks are not investments and production is adjusted for demand. Fewer want super cabs, so your resell market is smaller.
Buy for what you need now and during the tenure of the truck. I know one family that's made a super cab work; everyone else, including me, upgraded to the crew. You'll never sell the truck for having too much cab space, but you will to go larger. Get the crew cab with the 6.5' bed and put up with the longer length.
When I looked into it, at least in my area, for an identically equipped supercab vs supercrew, the supercab was 8-10k less value on kbb after only 1 year. Given the 3k initial price difference, it was significant, so I went with a supercrew but kept the 6.5' bed. I'm now in the market for a house, with a garage big enough for the truck as #1 priority, and let me tell you, it's been a PITA, and 4 months in, I'm still looking and living temporarily with all my belongings in my cargo trailer. The extra foot of wheelbase/overall length does make a big difference. But even so, I don't regret going with the 157" WB.
The only thing I don't like about my SuperCrew 6.5' bed is the turning radius. My Super Duty CC SB had a tighter turning radius than this truck.
Another reason I went with a crew instead of a super cab is the rear doors. My son in law's rear doors rattle like crazy when he drives over bumps on an '07 F150 with just over 100k miles. I noticed it even when it was relatively new. I don't know if the '15s and up are better.
I bought an Scab as it was just mom, me and the dog. There have been times that the Screw was needed and would have been much appreciated but overall I'm happy with my choice.
The 8-10K loss is wrong, check Edmunds. The value on my 2011 truck is still over 21K retail and it's a base model XLT.
I agree with your choice of at least a 6.5' bed, I carry more than a couple of coolers in mine. I bought a Super Cab because it's just my dog in the back seat. Then Mom stopped by and my wife had to sit in the back...that seat isn't comfortable for an adult for more than an hour. Probably still wasn't even very comfy during that hour. But it's probably good enough for kids.
I wanted a scab with 6.5 or 8 ft. bed. It's just the wife and I. Our sons (both in their 40s) never go on trips with us, maybe out to dinner occasionally. For short trips I figured crew would be alright, but wife says she will probably be the one that would get to ride in the back. So I went with the screw and 6.5 bed. Yeah, it's a long truck, but I haven't really had any problems driving it. Of course I did come out of a '94 F250 ext cab 8ft bed. I usually back into spots because I find it easier especially with the rear camera.
First weekend we had the truck, we went out of town. The wife needed to do some work using her laptop so she set in the rear. It was like a little office for her and she said it was as comfortable as the front. You don't really want to be holding a laptop in the front, what with air bags.
I have been real happy with my 157" wheel base. Lots of room in back for luggage and anything else you might want to carry. Although if it was just me I might rather have a scab.
I wasn't thinking about resale, if I had been then I should have gotten a 4x4. I bought what I wanted.

I'm in this club. Get what you want and worry less about resale value. The OP didn't mention if he had a second vehicle or not. If so (and if it's a four door), there could be less reason for the CC if that's not what you really want.
With my SC (my preferred cab) it's generally just me and the dog, so there is plenty of room, and I have plenty of dry, secure storage in the back of the cab when on road trips.
For me, I won't have less than a 6.5' standard width bed, so if I had to make choices, I would go with the really long wheelbase of the 6.5' CC if I couldn't have an SC. Honestly, if I was really concerned about resale value, I would have purchased a Tacoma.
So to the OP, get what you want and enjoy driving it.
Likewise. We got the SuperCrew plus the 6.5' box. True it's a PITA around town, and especially in places like the Costco parking lot. You also have to phone ahead to make a U-turn.
None-the-less, I'm glad I got the larger configuration more than I'm not.
