I just got my oil changed from Valvoline and while I was there I had them replace my windshield wipers. BIG MISTAKE I got charged $30.00 for 2 windshield wipers!
Did they replace just the rubber part, or the blade assembly? If it was the blade assembly then $30 is about right. New blade assemblies in parts stores are around $10-15 each. If it was just the rubber, then they only run about $7-$10 for a pair.
46fordtruck, I don't know where you shop but I just put new wipers on my two trucks. 28 bucks total. Not just the rubber blade either, everything. Not the cheapies either.
Wiper prices are varied. Is it the whole assembly, or just rubber? Most importantly - WHAT BRAND?! That can be as much as $10 difference for 1 vehicle.
I dunno - I put on the super-high-end-Bosch-silicon-ultra-crazy-silent-wipe wipers to the tune of about $15 each. The only way I can justify it is the fact that they are way better than the cheapies I used to run - they're quiet and they don't leave streaks.
I have a question, though - I work in a similar business, and I always make sure my customer knows EXACTLY what they're being charged for. My store (NTB) has wipers that are around $12-15 each, and I make sure that when my customers idly say "hey, could you replace my wipers while it's in the shop?" they know that it's going to be $25-30.
I don't think you were necessarily screwed, I think you got a sneaky, overzealous salesman (every store's got them). The Valvoline intant oil change store near me has a fantastic crew - I send my brothers and my parents there - the Valvoline guys treat them like family.
