Inner fender appearance/cosmetics

Has anyone successfully cleaned up their inner fenders? Mine look like crap and I would like to keep the original galvanized look. If you have been successful, what did you use? If I can't make them look like they did when the truck was new, I'm just going to go ahead and paint them.

A thorough de-grease is a start. Then clean with Scotchbrite and and strong solvent like lacquer thinner to get them clean as can be. If there are any rusty spots they can be cleaned and primed then touched up with a paint that at least sort of matches like Rustoleum titanium. That is what I have done as basic maintenance under and around the battery tray.

If you want a uniform appearance, prime the whole liner with etching primer or epoxy then paint. Several members have done this and I am sure some will post.

Mine had rust stains on them and I looked into using the "galvanized" coatings. None of them were satisfactory, they just looked like gray primer.
What I ended up using was Rustoleum silver hammertone. It mimicks the galvanized look and was easy to spray.

I'm pretty sure you guys would be disappointed right now. The Pumpkin has kinda taken a backseat for a little bit.
Right now it's sitting in the garage with the cab and bed in place but the bed has no outer quarters.
I haven't had time to do much of anything to the ol' girl for about three months.
I'm kinda afraid she's going to leave me because of neglect .

Okay... here's how she's looking right now. I think there's more Pumpkin in the spare bedroom than the garage .

I think you're right. Actually I think it kinda looks like a military bed, like on the M35A.

I'd love to. Might be able to do some small stuff in the next week or so. I rebuilt the steering column and the A/C system but there are things that I want to go back and do different.
In a way, taking a long time to work on a project sometimes has its advantages. The A/C and steering column are good examples. I already detailed and rebuilt both a couple of years ago. They've been sitting. I know there are things that I would've done differently.
With them sitting in the closet, uninstalled, I decided to go ahead and redo them and build them (again) like I want.

No such thing as a finished project in the automotive world.

You're right, they're never "finished", just closer to done.

I noticed that shredder in your "parts" room. You have that there so you can immediately shred receipts before the better half finds them?
