I have a 2003 Excursion that has the 6 liter diesel and if I tap the gas pedal at an idle or when I start to take off the engine starts a very rapid surging cycle. I have read some other posts but did find any that seemed to be the same type of surging. Below there is a link to a short video that I recorded that shows the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
As far as work on the truck I have only replaced all filters and a new fuel pump, alternator and sinister diesel coolant filter setup. I purchased the vehicle in April and made sure that it has had all maintenance done to it since it was new. The scheduled maintenance procedures have all been done over the years by Ford. I have put about 20,000 miles on it since April and other than the fuel pump dying there has not been any other issues that rendered it undriveable.
Something else that is weird is that when it starts surging like that sound of acceleration actually happens when the RPM's are dropping and when the engine sounds like it is revving down the RPM's are actually going up. I am not sure if you can tell by the video or not so I thought that I should mention that.
As far as equipment I have a SCT X4 and have tried all the different program options to see if any of those would make a difference but they have not. This is my first diesel vehicle and from what I have read this may not have been the best choice for my first diesel, however I have been building gasoline engines for over twenty years for drag racing and such so I am willing to get into it as much as I need to.
I am planning the put head studs, oil cooler and remove the existing crappy oil cooler that the engine came with.
Let me know if there is any other information that you need. Also if I need to unplug, remove, clean or replace any sensors or other items please let me know where they are located or I can try and locate them myself either way I just really appreciate the help.
Something happened to your pic link , can't open, my surge issue was engine warm / hot , check the ICP and connection for oil out the back of the sensor, also my connection had a short at the grey clip, with engine running do a pinch wiggle test at the ICP connection. Thanks Benny

Try the link again. I just copied it and pasted it into the address bar and it seemed to work ok.
I will take a look at the sensor tomorrow evening and get back to you. Thank you for the help.
With these trucks being 12 yrs + stuff gets brittle and heated from the turbo and heat from the engine, make sure the heat shield is on , your ICP and pigtail is under the turbo! you might be able to reach it from underneath ,
