Hello everyone, I'm trying to swap a bronco tank in my 87 F350. The problem I'm having is all the sending units for the bronco's use a 3 pin wiring plug. My truck has a 4 pin plug, can I splice a 3 plug on or is this two different styles of gauges?
Sending unit only requires two wires. You should be able to tell which ones the Bronco sending unit uses by putting an ohmmeter on the terminals of the sending unit and swinging the arm. Then determine which two wires on the connector on the truck go to the selector valve with a continuity test.
One of the other terminals on the connector probably "grounds" to the tank / plate. Figure out which terminal that is and connect that to whichever terminal on the truck harness connector goes to chassis ground, and you should be GTG.
Alright, after a half hour of searching Google, I found a sender that will work. Part number is FG38B, this is a 4 pin gas sending unit for a bronco, amazes me how crappy O'Reilly's part catalog system is because I couldn't find this for any bronco 83-92.
1980/84 Bronco is the same, but there are two different senders, one for 25 gallon tank, (EOTZ-9275-C), the other for 32 gallon tank (EOTZ-9275-D).
1985 and later with EFI use a fuel pump and sending unit assy. There are several different types just for 1985/86; 1987; 1988/91. I didn't look after 1991.
