EGR Delete's and tuners question.

I am in the middle of replacing the head gaskets and now getting to the EGR system. I am aware that if you delete the system completely you will require a tuner to eliminate a check engine light for the EGR. Here's my question, if I weld the factory cooler shut and put it back in place , it eliminates the function of the EGR , but does this method also require a tuner? I was under the impression if you go the welded route you did not require a tuner but somebody here on another post claims you still require a tuner to get rid of a check engine light. The truck is a 2007 6.0. . Thanks.

That is correct, you need a tuner to shut off the check engine light. If your that far into it,get a IPR delete. Welding up the EGR still leaves a chance of leaking into your intake if it breaks, because fluid still goes thru it. With a delete it's not there, plus you get a new up pipe without the scope in it that causes turbulence in the exhaust.

Do delete, keep the EGR valve leaving it plugged in and zip tied out of the way. You can run with the delete without throwing codes and eliminate the need run a tune to clear up the check engine light.

That's not true, The IA2 sensor will pick it up and set a code giving a check engine light. Leaving the EGR valve in will keep the fan in check and functioning as it was. And you don't have to remove the valve.

I was wondering if this would work. I was going to try it to see, I have a delete kit here and may use it if I need a tune regardless. I have a Edge on it now but it does not do the egr delete light. I should just stick to build 77-79's . No computers to deal with.

thanks , I have a delete kit here , I just wanted to get around buying another tuner just to get rid of a light. Why the IPR delete? never heard much on them but this is my first go round with a 6.0 . I prefer my 7.3 at this point. Haven't had to do anything other than rebuilding the turbo last summer.

Per4mance is right. I Have an 06 it does throw a DTC and the check engine light will stay on without a tuner.

Trust me, it will set a code. There's no need to remove the EGR. Some guys just do it because of the cool plate or what ever. It needs that valve plugged in due to the fact it is in the circuit some how. I'm doing a IPR delete right now on my F250 along with some other mods. The only one that you wouldn't need a tuner on is a 03 as it isn't programmed that way

I have all IPR stuff in my truck,it's a little pricey, but I like the quality and the engineering that went into it.Yes I have gone a couple of rounds with Vince with him cheeping out on some things but all in all it's a really good product. I especially like the coolant filter,as you can just clean it.

Well I guess I will go with the delete then, if I need another tuner regardless I would rather just get rid of it altogether. Thanks for the info.

My early 05 has been deleted a couple of years and no code. I think 05 was hit and miss that way then 06-07 is a definite on the code.

Installed the IPR delete with the new up pipe on my 6.0L last year. Been very happy with it. With this kit, FICM upgrade, fuel pressure spring and some other mods she's been just as dependable as my 7.3L's.
