Quiet on the west central gulf coast. Maybe 1/4 inch of rain and very little wind.

I hope everyone stayed safe...and I've got a question for the FL people. As you can imagine, all the news talks about are lines of people at hardware stores getting plywood, generators and gas cans. I know the population down there is large enough that if even 1% wasn't ready, the stores would be filled. Is that the case or are most folks not ready?

Just curious...if I moved to FL I'd spend the first few weekends getting all the supplies I needed for a storm so didn't have to be one of "those guys" on the evening news.

Having lived in Florida most of my 77 years, I've observed and been through a few storms. I have observed that some people will wait 'till the last minute for what ever reason, the reason not always valid. In our family the first word of a storm brewing I jokingly say, "Time to pick up plywood, milk, bread and eggs." Note, I said jokingly. We are prepared, high and dry.
I believe most people are prepared. Some newcomers are not.

Buying plywood to cover your windows/doors is about like using condoms that are 37 years past their expiration date.

Got about 8 inches of rain and constant winds of about 45 mph with gusts above 60 mph over the course of about 18 hrs. Lost power for just over two days but got to unbox a generator I've had for 11 years (given to me) and put it to use. Glad to say I've got no house damage and I live far enough from water that flooding isn't a concern. I have a couple trees that I need to take down due to damage but all in all I'm very fortunate compared to those living close to the coast. The utility crews have been amazing. My provider reported over 73,000 customers in its service area without power and within three days had almost all but a couple thousand back on the grid. A lot of lines, poles, and transformers were taken down by the winds and trees. Was expecting to be without power for much longer. Again, appreciate the well wishes.
