As a computer service bureau (we do your processing on our computers) we dread software updates. We try to wait at least a year before we try to upgrade things like Windows 7 or 8 or 10 etc. the reason is no one ever checks all of the possible outcomes of the change. They look at the improvements they were working on for income reasons and miss some of the better processes people use. Windows 8 was suppose to be a huge improvement over 7, how many never converted to 8 and went directly to 10. Microsoft never did bring out 9 !!
We held off going to 7 from XP until it was on its 5th or 6th revision and still had problems. It's a shame the powers to be didn't ask us what features were most important to us before they changed this system and lost the galley feature. Progress isn't always the in the best interest of the user.

I just went to answer a "how do I do this" thread and wanted to refer to my gallery and 80% of it is gone. 12 years of photos and "how to's" completely gone. Some of the technical write ups referred to them. This really stinks. Anyway they can recover them?!

Waldron my bet would be they are gone forever. The gallery feature under the old software was most likely not compatible to the new format and the problem was conversion time to reformat it would have been very costly in computer resources and programmers efforts. They chose not to expend these resources.

Is there still no resolution on recovery? I came back here to get copies of some very important pix that were destroyed by the ransomware attack on my computer that I needed, only to find they were gone. A large number of them were to illustrate my instructional posts I spent a great deal of time on that are now near useless. Who's asinine idea was this and why couldn't thy have sent out a simple email saying this was coming and come get them back before they are deleted? They are real quick to send me advertising I don't want to see and have plenty of room to store pics of girl's T&A shots. Did this happen in all the forums or just in the low ad revenue ones???

As always when changes are made not all turn out for the better.

Ax Racer, it's good to see you back here!

John, I try to live right but often times fail. I just checked to see if my gallery is still up and viewable and it is. But who knows to look at it?

Or maybe, John, it's because walston and I stayed pretty much stock!

Got this reply back:
''Check archive.org - since FTE is google-indexes, I bet archive.org took a copy a long time ago.''

You may just got swept under the carpet and wasn't noticed. Just hope they don't come back to do a spring cleaning again...lol

The worst part is the instruction ones in my gallery are all gone. Wiper converstion. Pitman arm, HVAC conversion. Lots of work lost. Still ticks me off!

The ones that survived are just pictures of the truck

There was a ton of very good information lost Walston, some very good write ups and even the pictures on their own were very helpful..was like having someone come and steel and destroy your family photos, wiping out all those memories...

You gentlemen did alot of the hard work.

Can we at least save the ones we can find and put them in the Internet away from FTE software control. I admire all you guys that did the leg work and were the first to try a new concept. It encourages us following to make a few improvements of our own . I have always been known for thinking outside the box.

You should never rely on someone else to protect your files, make a backup and keep in a safe place...

Stumbled across this thread.
Thought some might be interested to know that it seems at least some things can be extracted via the way back machine.
For instance, I found this nugget via the archive.org site Morris-Fomoko1 referenced above.
