I've had a bunch of Super Duty trucks and none have had it because they were bought off the lot. This truck I ordered and I wanted it.
I absolutely love it. Unlike gen 1, it is 100% out of the way when stored. It can be deployed in less than 10 seconds. It feels totally rugged - One of the 300+ guys on the football team tried it - no problems. To support that much weight leveraged off the tailgate, which itself is leveraged off the truck...I can only imagine how strong the tailgate must be.
My truck is a dually. You can still step on the tire and swing over the bedside, although its more difficult. I'd prefer the step.
What I find amazing is how some of the auto magazines are praising the "elegant solution" GM has found with the corner steps in the bumper. I'm floored. Those corner steps seriously detract from the rear appearance of the truck, and you have to be reasonably fit to grab the bedrail corner, hop one foot into the bumper, and literally swing your leg over the top of the tailgate. In the winter, when some ice forms in the corner step, look out. Finally, how well does it work carrying something into the bed? You need an extra set of hands. The gen-2 Ford step is absolutely amazing, I love it.
Keep in mind guys that these tailgates with steps grow legs and walk away so lock them. Cheap insurance is to put a pipe clamp on the passenger side hinge area so it can't be just lifted out.
I did not order the step since it would be in the way if loading anything long. Instead I will wait for Amp Research to get their act together and produce them for the 2017. Works with the tailgate up too and folds down or up with the tip of your toe.
I remember when GM had Howie Long calling it the ole man step. Now they wish they'd thought of it first. Had to put steps in the bumper corners so as not to copy Ford.

Those corner steps are pretty handy on the lighter duty trucks although cheesy. They would be too high on a larger vehicle but are handy for a work truck for someone in and out of the back a few times a a day.

Rob, you could have at least photoshopped out the Chevy bow ties before posting that pic here, lol. Just kidding, the corner step looks useful. But I still say the tailgate step is superior - the step is much wider, and you can walk straight up...no twisting or coming in on an angle. The grab handle is rock solid.

Rob, You said it would be in the way if you loaded anything long. Are you talking about the older generation that had the plastic ribbing and pole molded in on the tailgate? The 2017 design is perfectly flat and will no longer get in the way of any type of load.

Chevy in there on purpose. Stopped by dealer the other day and guess what? Chevy's are available!!

I understand that Epic but how do you get in when the 14' long 2x6's are hanging over it? That is why I like the corner step. And no more ripping the crotch out of a pair of jeans trying to get my old *** up on the wheel to climb aboard. (Actually I can still do that without a problem. Just tired of doing it!)
Yeah, I don't know for sure if an overhanging board would prevent opening the tailgate step. I'm inclined to think it comes out pretty flat before it hinges down. But then again, if the entire bed floor is covered that pretty much prevents any use of the step.
I see that little corner step and wonder if it folds up and away enough. Many times I drag the bumper a bit and wouldn't want anything hanging down a couple of inches.

I use a 20' equipment trailer for 14' long boards. I have no interest in having boards hang 4+ feet off my tailgate. For the 99% of the time you don't haul 14' boards, I imagine the step would do you well.

Maybe crotchless pants are the answer?
I guess that puts us back to square one - the real reason for the stripper pole!!

Was looking at the corner step on the Chevy, when shopping trucks. Sounded good, but was awkward with gate down and with gate up...the corner step was the same hight as the center bumper/step. I could just step on hitch or lower center bumber and swing over also. So, it is functionally useless in my opinion.
