Nice little features

Although not having ability to power fold mirrors automatically when vehicle locks is a big miss.. (maybe they can software update it later?) couple of nice little functions I like.
1. The A/C seats function remembers last setting after restart.
2. When A/C is full blast and incoming or dialing out phone call the A/C automatically turns down so you can talk/hear through the hands free speaker. Once call is over, A/C automatically goes back up. Nice touch!

This truck has tons of thoughtful little features that really move it up a class or two above the rest. I did not know the A/C turned down automatically - that's cool. I did see the heated seat turned back on after restarting.

Here's a few things I noticed:

-Small white LED lamp concealed in glove box (lower) and in center console. These are not part of the ambient lighting and only come on when the headlamps are on.

-Rear seat reading lamps (and front map lights) have illuminated switches

-LED puddle lamps under exterior mirrors eliminate the need for lit King Ranch running boards

-Ford logos in mirror blinker repeaters

-Turn signals do not ding when the tap to change lane feature is used

-Shelf in glove box for owner's manual

And probably more I am not thinking of or haven't discovered yet. If you get LED headlights, the backup lights are LED and they are absolutely amazing...especially compared to the high-mounted and relatively weak ones we were used to in the last generation.

How do you like the Output of the LED Headlights?

They are a massive step up over the 2016 I was driving. I have not driven a 2017 with the quad halogens at night, so I cannot compare to those, but I imagine they are still considerably better.

The auto high beams are very annoying, because they will operate in town, cruising at 35 mph. I don't want my high beams turning on and off on main street. They do seem to turn off quickly with approaching traffic, but its annoying. On the highway, its a useful feature. Fortunately, Ford lets you override with the traditional high beam control stalk, or shut the feature off altogether - several menus into the message center.

High beam seems to have a very wide and consistent spread of light, but maybe not quite as far a reach I was expecting. Low beam is perfect. All in all, a vast improvement. I'm telling you, the LED lighting on this truck is simply stunning. There is no Audi / Mercedes / Cadillac that out-impresses with exterior lighting. I griped at first having to buy the Lariat Ultimate package to get the lights option, but it seems worth every penny now.

What about seat heaters and steering wheel heater activation on cold starts?

Not that I need it (she already thinks I am ordering a truck) but that feature alone would be an automatic order go ahead.

It was 40F this morning when I headed to work. Remote start does indeed turn on the seat heaters and heated steering wheel.

I had actually forgotten my truck had the heated wheel. It appears the only way to turn it on is by pressing the small icon within the climate screen. So, it is kind of hidden.

Here are some observations:

The diesel supplemental electric heater appears to be significantly stronger than the old one. The heat is a little hotter and the air volume is a little greater.

The heated steering wheel heats quickly and gets pretty hot - hotter than I expected. I believe it is supplied through a 30A fuse...that's a lot of juice flowing through a clock spring into the steering wheel.

The heated front seats get slightly warmer than the previous generation, but still do not get nearly as hot as vehicles with traditional "resistance grid" heaters. For example, a 2016 F-150 XLT with heated "cloth" seats gets much, much hotter...it is a grid style heater.

Note, however, these tests are at 40F. We'll see how they work at -10F.

The cooled seats still take a long time to feel anything much...what I notice is there seems to be actually some cooling in the seat back this time...especially in the upper area, and especially if you lean back. Maybe a slight improvement.

one thing i noticed this morning that i liked alot is when the truck is remote started it automatically turns the blower to about 3/4 full speed in case you forgot to leave it on. when you put the key in the blower goes back to last setting.

love the top tier compartment behind the SUPER DUTY above the glove box for added storage.

Good info Thanks! I've found the cooled seats on the Platinum to be quite strong, it was 91 yesterday and I turned them down at one point! May have to do with the perforations in the Platinum leather
