I'm fairly certain this may have been covered, however I want to know for sure my options. I am currently towing a Jayco Eagle 314BHDS with a weight of around 9500lbs. As the new truck (F-350 Platinum) will not work with my current hitch setup, I'm wondering what the best options are available on the market. Anyone else currently looking to replace the WD/ Sway Control setup? Also any idea of 3" receiver options for a WD hitch coming?
Not a stupid question at all. The current setup will not work due to the height difference of the truck. My current truck is a 2016 F-150 and as you can see from a below thread its a big difference in required ball drop. By the way my current WD is a Reese 12,000lb.
You are correct. I have checked a few places locally here in Calgary and haven't been able to find a supplier that stocks them. Also I haven't been very happy with this setup to be honest. It's wicked loud, so I guess any reason to replace it with something "better" I will jump all over it.
Yes the Hensley is wonderful, and wonderfully expensive, I had one in the past great sway control. Also check on Pro pride, same type of hitch as Hensley, but a little less money. They are both also Heavy hitches 100 lbs or more.
I will throw in my 2 cents. You won't need a weight distribution hitch. Look for a new 3" receiver and ball, cheaper and much lighter.
But, it will not address the "mechanical" sway control.
Personally, I have a propride and it is by far the best hitch I have ever owned. I don't think it will be necessary on my new 2017 F350 but I will most likely tow with it anyway. Certainly worth a look, but for me a 70K truck, and 20k trailer, a 2k hitch was just a drop in the bucket.
My understanding about the hitches being intragrated into the frames, we don't need sway control.
With the hitches integrated into the frame, you don't need weight distribution. Sway control is completely separate, and depending on the trailer, you may still need it.
