Bleeding off fuel pressure?

Say you're pulling a 302-EFI and tranny out of a 90 F150....

I'm led to believe that the pressure in the fuel lines stays up for quite some time (like weeks?).

How do you bleed off the fuel pressure in the system to avoid having gas spray all over the place when you cut the gas lines?

Thanks,

I'm new to this, but as I understand it you can remove the gas caps and that should release the fuel pressure. You could then depress the schrader valve on the fuel rail (mine is by the fuel injectors) to verify all pressure is released.

More knowledgeable folks: Is that correct?

Dan

There is a valve with a cap on the fuel rail that looks like a tire valve. You can use this to relieve there fuel pressure. Opening the fuel cap just won't affect pressure from the pump to the fuel rail.
