solved: ringing noise from front tires
My truck sounded like Santa's sleigh with reindeer and their bells when rolling through the subdivision. The driver's front tire was where this "bell" sound was coming from. I jacked up the driver's front end and spun the tire....heard the "bell" sound and decided to pull the hub cover off. I have a 7 lug bolt pattern on my wheels and the center hub is a pain to take off.
At first i thought it was from the brake pads, but it was not. Then i saw what it was. The nut on the hub that the cotter pin goes through was making the ringing noise when the tire was spun. I pulled out the cotter pin, took off the nut that the pin went through and saw that it had black adhesive from the factory to hold it in place.
Well, mine wasn't sticking anymore so i used some 3M black adhesive to keep it in place again. Put the cotter pin back through, let it set-up and dry for about 15 minutes and took a test drive. No more "jingle bell" sounds coming from my front end.
