Header studs vs bolts?

Header studs vs bolts?

I'm replacing the manifold gaskets on my Thorley headers on my 460 and have the choice of bolts or studs. Any reason one is better over the other?

I'll look into that. It's a tight fit, didn't think the tabs would fit.

Do you know if you used the 3/4, 1, or 1 1/4" bolts? They have listings for 3 lengths for the big block.

Bolts... but I usually use a couple studs loosely screwed into the heads as 'guides' until I'm ready to finish the install.

Studs, buy some grade 8 threaded rod from McMaster and make your own. Make the farthest forward and rear stud 1/2" longer for easy alignment.

Studs are the best choice 9 times out of 10, more consistent clamping force and less stress on the bolt...studs aren't fighting with all the twist stress/thread friction of bolts.

With that said, I use bolts for headers because studs don't fit...
