Since I am going to change my glow plug harnesses, should I change my glow plugs as well? I see oil leaks around 3 areas on the harnesses . Is it the harness that can leak, glow plugs, or both?
Looks like Stewart moved this to the wrong forum since he has a 6.0. But to answer your question, the harness leaks not the glowplugs. That being said, they are about $10 each for zd13's so I'd change them with the harness. If you have to change them later you'll most likely bugger up the harness ends and have to replace the harness again. The harness ends are fragile and break apart easily...even with the special removal tool.

Yup. I was accessing through the app while at the docs office, so sigs don't show and valve cover gaskets and GP's automatically make me think of the 7.3 because of the UVCH probs we have.

Thanks. This is my first diesel and don't know how some of this works. Glow plugs--I built all sorts of model planes growing up so no culture shock on that. I assumed(I know I know) that the harness is electrical so I was trying to figure out where the oil would come from to leak around the harness. In fact, I still don't know how that works.
Yep--gotta go look at some diesel engine diagrams. My brain still thinks gas and I visualize a glow plug as a 1 shot spark plug for starting...so I have trouble visualizing why an electric harness would even come in contact with oil.
Any suggestions for a simple reference to learn more about these guys?? Thanks
Its difficult to explain but look at this cut-a-way picture of the 6.0. http://www.turbotraining.com/60class.htm In the cut away picture on the bottom right of the web page.. On the left side is a red oring at the top of the glowplug, and harness top, thats the glowplug harness oring that seals it from the outside and the rockerbox
Also you'll never stop chasing leaks/seeps on these engine. Like the 2 cycle Detroit diesel engine of days gone by......"if its not leaking there's no oil in it"

Reason: Picture was too big

Thanks I see how the connection is now. Are the glow plugs tedious to remove and replace? AKA-how easy is that to screw up?
