On my way to work had to make a stop at a friends. Was there 10 min. Go to start the truck wouldnt turn over. So I call AAA they show up hook up their tester then the battery booster and it starts right up. I figured ok a battery. then while its running he runs a charging system test. Heres where screwy comes in. it says NO PROBLEMS: NO LOAD 13.58 LOADED 14.26
STARTER TEST: battery voltage too low 5.75v amps 0.0A
Tech said the alternater is good. ??? Shouldnt the load and no load readings be reversed? Going to battery shop now and have the system checked out again.
IF the battery voltage is around 6 volts, sounds like half of its cells are dead.
If your battery's charge was already low to begin with, the alternator isn't designed to put it back up to a full charge. You need a battery charger for this. The alternator is designed to maintain a charge.
If you replace the battery with a new one, put the new one on a battery charger at a low setting and let it trickle charge up to full capacity, before putting the battery in the truck. High charge settings burns up batteries that aren't designed for deep cycle charging.
