Ring Gear Sizing

Hey Guys,

I'm replacing my rear diff cover and didn't realize there are multiple sizes. How do I figure out what the size is of my ring gear?

2001 F150 XLT 4x4 SuperCrew
5.4L

Check drivers side behind the door for the information sticker. There is an axle code there, google the code it will tell you have you have.

5.4 SuperCrew should be a 9.75.
The axle code will not tell you which rear end you have, only the gear ratio and if you have limited slip or not.

If you have 10 bolts and squarish cover, it is a 8.8, if you have 12 bolts and trapezoid shape, it is a 9.75 (technically a 12 bolt trapezoid shape could also be a 10.25, but not found stock on the Supercrew, only the F250 LD/ 7700).
