I'm looking for some advice on building my 2001 F350, 7.3L. As of now I'm going with Swamps Single Shot (30% over stock) injectors, Fuel lab fuel system with regulated return, wicked wheel 2 in my stock turbo housing, 4" turbo back MBRP exhaust system with muffler deleted. Cold air intake, DP tuner F5 chip with 7 tunes (mostly "factory" set tunes) and a John Wood built 4R100. Truck itself is sitting on a 12" lift with 40 inch tires, gear ratio is 4.66 (front and rear axles)
The main question I have is I'm looking into working on the air/intake aspect of the truck now. Tossing around the idea with the Garret 38R ball bearing turbo with an NON EBV pedestal and I'm trying to decide on a intercooler to go with it. Cruising around 65 to 70 mph, 2000-2200 rpm. I'm maybe making 5 pounds of boost though I know 7.3's aren't known for big boost numbers, and EGTS normally stay around 900 degrees @ 2000-2200rpm. When I really get into it though its not uncommon to see around 1200 degrees EGT's. I'm looking for some advice from someone who can start to steer me in the right direction of maybe provide some info on something I have over looked! Thanks in advance!
I'm no expert, but I have read many forum posts that say when you install a wicked wheel and bellowed up pipes etc it reduces the egt. As for the 'cold air intake', don't go with a k&n style, the motorcraft paper filter is very popular and some of the intake mods are cheaper. There's tons of information on this site but it's not easy to find exactly what you want answered by searching, I hope someone chimes in here that's more knowledgeable than I.
I always fought the egt's in my previous 7.3's, especially towing. I found that the non ebpv ped, 3.5 or 4" turbo downpipe(can't remember) with no muffler were good for 50- 100 deg decrease. The 38r will help drop the egt too. Those combined with a napa 6637 and custom tunes on a T6 or DP were my favorite mods. My 7.3's were beasts. I never had to get into injectors.
