I bought a 53 that has a Gm motor , front clip . and rear end . Not being a GM guy , How do I tell what I Have , The motor does not have 350 cast into the block in the front sides , The front end has short springs and shocks , that have blocks inserted to expand the springs . Where do I start , The truck starts right up and moves , carb has problems , brakes work good , and the front grill makes the truck a pretty thing , after a lot of beer .
Well to start with you need to find the casting numbers on the block and run those. They don't always give 100% of engine size but what I see is a Chevy 350. Need to see other stuff to know about trans ect. I would guess it has a th350 for that the pan would look square with 1 corner cut off. What is the steering wheel emblem look like, usually people use the same donor car for all. The GM clip will limit the choices it could have been though.
That is a Camaro/Firebird/Nova IFS. If installed correctly it is a great suspension. Ride quality and handling are superior...lots of parts on the aftermarket for them. A buddy has a Nova clip on his 55 and it performs great. He has dabbled with various springs and shocks and an upgraded sway bar but no matter how much he screws with it it still works fine.
The grille to me looks like a 89 Chev Caprice , the steering column looks as though it likely came from the same car, possibly the suspension too..that engine could also be a 305cu in
bubble gum , will need to be cut apart and redone . ford frame , rear end may need spring perches change to get right drive line angle . the other truck I bought has real good front fenders and grill , also the cab is solid , The blue truck hood and doors line up and close perfect . May end up making one out of both and have a pile of good parts for sale .
Besides the casting numbers as described above I think there are some stamped numbers on the rear of the block by the bellhousing, just behind the heads (my memory isn't the greatest but I think its towards the driver's side)
Mishmosh of parts there, hard to tell what is what without more pictures. Rear axle is an 8.2 10 bolt, code stamped on the axle tube will tell what it came from and the gear ratio if it has not been changed. Used 1965-1972.
Front upper control arms look like 2nd gen F body (camaro, firebird) 1970-1981.
Brake booster looks like chevy truck
Steering column is very long and steering wheel looks like early 70s cadillac but the emblem on the wheel will be an easy ID.
Engine could be anything small block chevy, way too many possibilities. Need the casting number off the left side rear of the block and the stamped suffix code on the machined pad at the front of the passenger side head.
Even the engine is a mismosh, early intake manifold that would of had an oil filler tube, home made alternator brackets.
Nothing wrong with any of those parts other than the steering column IMO, too long both in the engine compartment and interior. Front suspension is a huge upgrade and the 10 bolt is fine for a driver, just not strong enough for racing with sticky tires.

My guess is a 305, the carb on it looks like a 500cmf #1403. Great little carb, (I'm running a #1409). I couldn't see enough of the Alternator Bracket... But think the PS pump bracket is home made.
We need more pics!
Where's the cookies... Darkside... there are suppose to be cookies

Carb is an edelbrock on an adapter, so no way to tell from that what the engine is.
I agree, Dave, that you can't tell what engine it is from the carb... But most people I know put a 600cmf on a 350... and I'm thinking about what is common with most GM 10 bolt car rear ends. That is why I'm guessing a 305.
