I think what you're seeing is the brace underneath, a rubber grommet with the line going into a shiny box (polished stainless?), and the reflection of the line on the side of the box.

Gag! Made for Sears by Puch. As a college kid working in the Sears Parts Dept I had to find parts for a few of these things. All had to come from the factory Puch distributor, and took forever to receive. Not many happy owners that I recall. Stu

This cracks me up. See the sign painted on the window? Guess the weight of this Ford pickup and win $100. I can promise you there's a sheet or two of plywood under that pile of gravel. By the squattyness of the suspension and the spread of the pile, I'd say there's about an extra 1000 pounds sitting there, which is about a half a yard of gravel.

The weight bias being what it is, with the forward axle lines, it probably got around pretty good.

Oh, I know that. It was just a car, a nice car, but if its your only car and a daily driver you need it to get to work. If I remember correctly in late 60's to early 70's people would put snow tires on Camaros of the era. And yes, I had snow tires on my 57 Chevy when I was a college kid in the mid 70's....

If that bed was full of gravel ("The bed of a full size standard pickup has dimensions of: 8' long X 5.33' wide X 1.5' high. When loaded level full, a truck of this size will hold 2.5 cubic yards of material."), and gravel weighs around 2,835 lbs/cu yd, that truck should be sitting on the bump stops with flat tires with a payload of 7,087 lbs, plus the heap.
