Had a guy try and tell me his Excursion gets 25 MPG. Now this is local not on long trips..
And today he was telling everyone how he had the Turbo set where he could only build 7 lbs of boost. And had pulled 32,000 lbs with that 7 lbs of boost. Man I did not know that land sled could do that. Or that the class 3 hitch he had on the back could handle 32,000 lbs of weight.

Had a number of drivers bragging about the mileage they were getting in their company cars. But being company cars all of the mileage and fueling records were available. Not one person got anywhere near the mileage they were claiming. The conclusion? "People lie. A lot."
Back when I owned a 1999 F250 crew cab 7.3 diesel I got over 50 mpg once!!
Blizzard started in Lincoln NE, and it took me forever to get to Cheyenne on I80. Basically idling whole way. Filled up in Lincoln and had 3/4 of a tank left when I got to cheyenne.....several hundred miles.
If I remember right I calculated 50 to 60 mpg. It can be done but not above 30 mph.
You know that one guy in the bar who never buys his own beer, but everyone buys him a few so the stories get bigger and more entertaining?
You meant THAT guy, right? LOL.
I get that mileage if I reset the computer at the top of a hill and COAST...
If he's only making 7psi boost, he's driving a PRIUS!!! LOL.
I see you know the same fool. Yes he can sure spin a tall Yarn. Now tell a lie, the man would never tell one. He might tell a dozen, but never can he stop at one. He also owns a 24 ft trailer that he hauled a 100 HP Kubota tractor, Bobcat and 5 pieces of Equipment behind the Excursion 900 miles all up hill.
Now I own a 5.9 Cummins in a Kodiak. I can drive 1000 miles and still be on 3/4 tank in it. But that is 125+ gallons for it to move off 3/4 tank.

I still brag about the first few times i took the Ex to Texas. I could fill up in Taneytown, Md and not get fuel again until West Memphis, AR. 905 miles on a tank of fuel. Now both times it took just over 40 gallons but it still comes out to roughly 22mpg.
It sounds like that guy's truck wpuld put mine to shame.
I need to know what you do/did Twitchy because I get nowhere near that... Even after the many items that I have repaired/replaced. I am beginning to feel like something is dragging. I just can't figure it out. I think that I can take the cake for the worst unloaded mileage.
All Interstate Highway, tanked up at exit then right back on and refilled again at another exit later in the day, cruise control set at 65 MPH with only me and an overnight bag on board. Hand calculated 12.5 MPG.
Towing the 11,000lb TT our best yet mileage was on the 420 mile trip home from Niagara Falls where we got 9.4 MPG.
ZERO boost! .

Yours is easy, its all down hill. From MD to TX is going South West so by looking at the map its all down hill. Just let it coast and your good to go. LOL

2wd, paddle mirrors, tires at 70lbs, driving 70-ish, and not clearing the carbon...
I've gone 965 miles on 45.5 gallons, 21.2 mpg, filled up in FL, drove to NC, two days with family, stopped in SC on way home to fill up.

I use to be real easy on the pedal and never go over 2k rpms. Stock height 265 tires, removed stock roof rack, paddle mirrors, deisel kleen or 2 stroke oil every other fill up.
Drag is your biggest enemy when it comes to mpg. Switching to the new tow mirrors alone dropped me an average of 1 mpg. Now with the larger springs, tow mirrors, 285 tires, roof rack and roof lights, I get about 13. I can push it to 15 or 16 if I am very light on the pedal. With the TT, 8mpg no matter what I do now.
I am waiting to remove that *****ty a** f**king turbo that I upgraded too and see what my numbers go up to.

Didn't you hear? All you have to do is adjust your wastegate so your boost maxes out at 7psi. THEN you get all that monster mileage! LOL.
But seriously, I can and have done 18-20mpg, IF not windy and fairly flat, like about mid-PA and East on the Turnpike. Keep the speed down, avoid the "jerk jams" on the pike from people who don't keep right, and feather the throttle.
But- at a cost of about 3mpg, I can maneuver around unsafe traffic-jammers, travel at reasonable speeds and make decent time, in a relaxed driving state.
Now, if I was driving all DOWNHILL, like the trip from MD to TX that was mentioned....
OR....you could go all hybrid electric with your truck by getting one of these and converting your boost:
