Question Brake Replacement

I have a 2000 psd 4x4 and I need to replace the brakes (pads and rotors, rotors have already been turned and I think they're now warped.) Anyway, I heard from another friend with the same type truck that there was something different about changing the pads and rotors on this vehicle compared to others? I have changed brakes on just about every other vehicle including other Ford Trucks, so can anyone here tell me if there is different steps to take whicle doing this?

I appreciate ANY and all help you can give me. Thanks in advance...

Brake Replacement

I changed mine out to ART rotors. Pretty straightforward.

The fronts have little hairpins that keep the pads spread apart. A real PITA. There are shims on the rear pads that may not come on the new pads.

They put thread locker on the caliper bolts. Takes some grunt to break them loose.

I did mine start to finish in 4 -1/2 hours for all 4 wheels (actually 5, but that's another story).

Brake Replacement

Cool, so sounds like nothing completely crazy. I wonder what my buddy was talking about the extra "tool" that I would need?? oh well. Do you know where I can find the ART rotors and are they superior to OEM replacements?

Thanks again and anyone else have any input?

Brake Replacement

I just replaced front pads and rotors on a 2000 Excursion 4x4 7.3PSD. On the pulsating brakes post someone advised OEM rotors. He was right. I got Chinese made rotors that didn't fit. I ended up going to ford and getting OEM. I also got their best pads. The aftermarket pads I got with the first rotors didn't come with new clips and springs. The Ford pads did. I think now that I know how to do it, I could probably do each wheel in under an hour. The rotors slide over the hubs so there is no need to take hubs apart. You do need a pretty good sized hammer to get rotors off so don't be bashful.

My conclusion is the job is not that tough (I did it and I'm Swedish) and buy OEM with new clips and springs. My old pads were hanging up on the clips and I'm guessing the new ones might have also.

My 2 cents - Dan Ward
