We have all seen the videos where they put a Dodge, Chevy & Ford up on that wonky ramp thing to show how much the truck flexes. One of the things they point out on the Ford is that it flexed enough to press the tailgate into the bed wall where it wouldn't open.
I found this odd little thing on the inside edge of my tailgate and back edge of the bed. When the gate is shut the 3 teeth align and it looks like it would hold the bed in position. Anyone know anything about this?
For all I know the 2016's had it too and this is a lot about nothing.
It has been on the Super Dutys for quite some time. It is supposedly there for the man step and stripper pole to ensure the gate doesn't slide while someone is climbing into or out of the truck.

That is good information. I am curious where is it going to slide to?
That's something we have discussed and speculated about many times in the 6.7 section, and nobody seems to really see or understand the need. It may be for a reduction of liability more than anything.

Interesting the link does not show up until I respond. Thanks for sharing. And for the ones' chastising the newbie for not searching maybe they should try the search themselves. There is tons of information. Correct. But oftentimes searches yield hundreds of posts which contain nothing of the problem one is looking for answers. And to insult those who don't follow the exact protocol expected: get a life. Share some patience and help teach, not criticize.
Edit: OK now it does have the link. Thanks.
On mine, it is Ford part number 107B72 and shows up as "Truck Box Rear Floor Cross Member Bracket" and 404A42A and shows up as "Lock Striker Plate Tailgate - With Flexible Step" on a Ford parts list.
