Hello, I have a 2010 6.4L turbo diesel. Without a trailer on a mtn incline I have no issues. She will fly up the hill and she is quiet when I'm not pulling the 10,000 Lb trailer.
When pulling the trailer, I have a loud howling noise and reduced performance.
I had it at the Dealership and I had them check the engine/turbo and they found no problems? I asked if they tested under load and they said yes??
Someone suggested that the "Waste gate valve" was defective. Any advice/input/ideas are greatly appreciated.
You're pulling extra weight, which makes the engine work harder & it then makes more noise. 10,000# will slow down any truck to a certain extent. Just because it's a diesel doesn't mean it's magic.
I've been in other F250's going up grades pulling heavier loads without the howling noise. Also, we were maintaining 55+mph. Some were different years and another was identical year.
Details are key to getting help here. Post as exact specs on your truck as you can. Besides year and motor, cab/trim level, mileage, stock or tuned or modified in anyway, gearing, wheel/tire size, maintenance history, recent repairs, what type of 10,000lb trailer, what % grade, what are the gauges doing, boost?, any codes. Your dealer tested under load? How? You describe a 'howling' noise any video capabilities? Can you describe it more accurately, location, severity, under throttle or always present? And on and on.
