5R110W Extension Thread

Since it was raining all day I'd figured I'd look up if there was any you tube video's on how to replace this tail extension housing. Well there is not one,so I'll take pictures and we can do what ever it is so someone can see it for next time. I'm sure this will happen to someone else as it happened so fast that by the time it started it was done. This is what you see looking at the trans from under the truck.

As you can see this is what is left of the extension housing. If you look carefully, you can see it was broken for awhile. The universal finished it off.

I had a really hard time with this as every bolt was frozen. This is how I had to take out the transfer case with the front driveshaft still attached.

The bolts are rounded off,so I couldn't get the yoke separated from the front rear. Tomorrow is another day. The new trans extention housing is back in and ready for the transfer case about 10 hours later.

So it really wasn't a moot product that caused the issue? It was already broken before hand and could of been a coincidence?

I think it helped it that's for sure, but it was definitely broken before cause it was siliconed back together. It will be fixed right this time and ready for another 200 thousand miles. All I joints are going to be done with full service to the drive train with new seals and all.

OMG!

Did they use structural silicone RTV?

I guess now I understand why the PO was willing to go down to that price. And I guess you'll be a little busy looking for other gifts that were left for you.

Bill, not that I'm in the best physical condition right now but if you need help there are times I could lend a hand. Or half a hand.

I got Big Blu to tackle after this, and if you just want to hang out and give pointers your more that welcome. I got my butt kicked today over at my friends shop. Everything fought me every inch of the way from 830 this morning. I got to finish this project as I'm months behind on my thing that HAVE to be done before winter. We will get together one way or another.

BIll was the PDF I posted of any help?

I find it sad that someone would bubble gum a tail housing
like that knowing what can happen if a drive line wants to depart.

This job should had of been done today, but sadly it's not. The shop was closed today so I had the whole place to my self. I decided to open the door to the shop for some natural light and that was my big mistake of the day. Kenny my buddy had a 67 Corvette that had come in for some accident repair work and the owner decided to have the car restored to original. It is beautiful to say the least. Well he shows up with his grand son and says he's wants to take him for a ride in it. Now after telling him Kenny is not here and I don't work here and I'm just fixing my own truck he starts getting pissy. So on the phone I go and call my buddy,no answer. I tell him no way and I taking the responsibility for him to take the car. He has a few choice words with me and kicks my bolt bucket and all my volts go flying. Wrong thing to do,I told him I'm calling the cops and he best leave before things get ugly. Well I spent 3 hours looking for my bolts. After Kenny finally calling,he informed me he would take care of me and said I did the right thing because he's been telling the guy the car has been ready for a month and owes 25k. I told him add a grand and he laughed. Needless to say tomorrow is another day

Man that could of went real bad. Sounds like the guy was a JO. Imagine he did take the car and tried to skate on payment? Thank goodness it didn't come to that.

I know Kenny was glad. He trusts my judgement and knows I been in business for myself. I'm no dummy and got the knot in my stomach not to give in. I still called the cops so it was on record and made a report. I'm seriously thinking on pressing charges.

If he assaulted you or caused property damage is one thing but I don't think it's worth crying over spilled bolts.
(sarcasm^^)
Really though I wouldn't waste my(your) valuable time.

Oh by the way, nothing good @ the swap meet in E-town. Well except for the Acid Blonde cigar I picked up. Seems like every year it gets worse. People cleaning out their junk draws at home and thinking they have gold.
