2011-2014 6.7L diesel engines are equipped with a Garrett/Honeywell GT32 sequential turbocharger. They are essentially two turbos in a single package. The smaller turbo feeds the larger one. The 2015-2017 6.7L engines use a single Garrett/Honeywell GT37 variable geometry turbocharger. It's a single 88mm unit with vanes or fins that adjust to alter the flow of air to mimic a smaller turbocharger when power is needed quickly. You have two options for alternators I believe. One is a single heavy duty alternator (most common) and the second is dual alternators.

Wasn't there also a single regular duty 157 amp alternator that was the base standard alternator, as well as a single Heavy duty 200 amp alternator.
The Dual which was the combined 157 amp and the 200 amp for a total of 357 amp.
You got the heavy duty alternator if you got the Rapid Heat option.

Three alternator options, regular, HD, and Dual. Some options require at least the HD. I like my duals with the rapid supplemental heat option. Hopefully it puts less stress on them and the batteries.
'17's they added dual heavy duty as an option as apparently even duals with a regular and HD alternator were not powerful enough.

Spamfritter - Honestly, I can't imagine anyone wanting the regular, single, Alternator on one of these trucks... Maybe a fleet XL trim truck with no options and one that will never tow anything and being ordered from a company (or government agency) that pinches every penny.
