There is a virus out there that is a spam generator. They are calling it "so big". We got hit at work and it sends a multitude of emails that just keep coming. Some of the emails are from folks I know but they have not sent any emails so be cautious. Mine are coming thru titled as "that movie". If you see anything like this or any email that doesn't look right - delete it. I have gotten about 300 emails so far today.
Don't open .pif, .scr, *****, .com, .vbs, extensions that are attached to e-mails, even if you recognize the name of the sender. This virus spoofs the "from" address by harvesting names from computers that it has already infected.
Not that I am real computer savy but we have Norton Corporate Anti-virus and a firewall that didn't work. We have been instructed to go to Norton Liveupdate and get a patch that is suppose to work. Might want to update your Norton if it hasn't expired.
For those using Norton, they've had 2 or 3 virus definition updates this week. Checking on a weekly basis may be too long of a time span. With this recent outbreak, you may want to check your virus definitions on a daily basis. BTW Eric, I think Norton works pretty good too!
Also, for those using IE (don't shoot the messenger please) there is yet another update to address 2 newly found problems. These are seperate patches from the one issued to combat the "Blaster" worm problem. Here's a link to the article about the problem: PC Mag-IE patches
It seems that we'll all be updating on a more regular basis for the time being. But those of us using Microsmurf are used to that.
