I think my "11" needs shocks. Smooth roads are good but get on some rougher stuff and the tools in the door panels start to rattle like i have an out of balance tire which i don't. Truck has 100K on it. My 95 Crew Cab had the original shocks on it at 180K when i sol it so the newer stuff Ford uses must be crappy. Really want to stay around $300 so Rancho is out. Not so fond of the adjustment ***** anyways. This leaves me a choice between:
Bilstein 4600 Series
Bilstein 5100 Series
KYB Excel-G
KYB Gas-a-Just
KYB MonoMax
Any thoughts on any of these? Stock truck, Stock tires, Haul around my 40HP tractor, Dump trailer, Landscape trailer and plow snow.....
Still on the fence with a "12". Only experience is with Bilstein on wife's Blazer, got the code off the glove box door and ordered for correct suspension. They were pricey at the time and you couldn't tell I had even changed them, old ones had 100K on them. Still rode like a dingy in a hurricane. Decided not to buy for anything again, but some people have good results. Maybe a GM thing but DW liked the Blazer.
Gas-a-just on mine for the last 70,000 miles. Pretty happy too. Just put KYB struts on the Expy and have on past vehicles as well. Seems to be a good brand of shock that restores that solid feeling you had when the vehicle was new, but lasts longer than OEM.
IMHO, this is the one place not to skimp on or try to save money. It's well worth it to spend the extra money getting a better set of shocks. I'm not saying you need to spend a grand on shocks, but if you did, I think you will be amazed. The point is that you get what you pay for. The more you spend, with proper research, the better quality parts, build quality and longevity you will get. Your tires and brakes will last longer too. Why? Because the shocks control the interaction between all of them.

On my trucks I always put the Bilstein 4600 shocks. I think the 5100 & 4600 have the same internal workings. Either way they are a nice upgrade from factory shocks.
You know those aren't the only options, right? I missed out on the rebates from Rancho, but I got 9000XL's for my '11 F250 and love them. Adjustable, running on 7 at the moment, may change them at some point.
I have 5100's on my Dually, they ride great, very firm, but no rough, I really like them.
I put KYB MonoMax on my 01 Excursion before I sold it, they replaced some blown out Ford shocks. They made a huge improvement in ride, very smooth but not harsh. They convinced my cousin to replace the Ranchos on his F250.
