Reviving an Excursion!
Alright guys! This is planned to be about a 3 week build. I'm going to clean it up, repair and update everything I can for my budget I set forth for myself.
So I found it on Craigs List the other night, called on it and found out its the owner of a shop right down the road from my work. It was his wife's truck for about 3 1/2 years. In March she rear-ended a RAM pickup and he was going to fix it, after he had not fixed it for months and she kept driving it with no headlight/ turn signal and she got tickets he parked it.
He listed it for $3k with the parts he had which included a header panel and fender. Also the old fender with the limited trim. I didn't pay that.
I drove the truck, it cold started with no noises, no exhaust leaks..ect ran great tranny shifted perfect. It has a little shake 65-70 but thats because he put some junk tires on it and did not balance them. Steering was good, has a small clunk in the front end which are the end links. Today I crawled under it and everything is dry no weird leaks or anything.
Its had ball joints and brakes in the last year, has Warn hubs.
CLEAN TITLE!
The interior is trashed but it's all there and cleanable
Door lock actuators will need to be fixed I'll be attempting the free fix..tips welcome!
The plan as it sits currently, may change slightly:
1.Fix all body damage and paint
2.Buff and wax rest of the exterior
3.POR15 the hitch and frame, has light surface rust nothing crazy
4.Pull the carpet and pressure wash it
5.Deep clean all the seats, flip the arm rest covers over
6.Change oil and filter air filter
7.Put new/used tires on it
8.Install remote start
Then she will be listed between October 1st/5th for top dollar and we'll see what happens!
Oh really?

That’s thousands of dollars in damages the insurance company will cover, but what may be not be covered is the diminished value of your car.
Even If You Repair A Crashed Car, Your Resale Value Will Not Recuperate
I guess 33% is nothing in your estimation.
On average $2000.00 less.
Here's another one that uses the figure 33%, so yeah, "keep living the dream, because you have to be asleep to be dreaming."

And also while we're talking about this. This trick needs a hood, fender and bumper as well as some misc. header panel pieces. You think your going to buy this truck for $5k after its fixed?! Good luck with that. That's a dream right there!
BTW, I work in a body shop and see cars fixed all the time. Some requiring frame rails and such. So I know what goes into a body repair! That X isn't bad! And will sell for what they are all going for in hat condition, accident or not!

The crash was reported, I found the accident report in the truck with both the Ex and Ram showing "functional damage". I highly doubt this fender bender which is literally all it is will have any effect on the sale. It's a 16 year old Alaskan truck, we have so many wrecks here that I've never ran into a buyer having an issue over a wreck. My old '98 Expedition had 2 wrecks listed on the car fax...buyer never asked for a car fax or about previous damage. Nor any other buyer actually...
If all goes right I'll list it for 7,500 or 8K and I have a rock bottom I won't go below.
As we all know the market for relatively low mile clean Excursions is small, The ones for sale here all have 205+ miles on them and only (1) is a V10. I'm going to have it on sale before the Alaska state permeant fund checks are sent out to the citizens of our great state, this way I know plenty of people will have cash. Many families wait until this time to pile money together to buy a newer or improved car/truck. That is why I have a short deadline the checks start going out on October 6th. I don't expect this truck to take long at all to sell.
I'm trying to pickup some snow tires, get paint and hopefully get a hood and bumper in the next 2 days or so.
Go ahead and list your rust repaired EX that you did the work on a few years back and see if it garners top dollar. Even Apoc understands this concept.
Sorry JK.Where oh where did I mention the "trick" would sell for $5000?
I mentioned $7500-$8500, pretty close to what Russ has in mind.
Sorry for going off in a different direction in your thread Russ, but when 1excursionfanboi makes dubious statements with out any factual relevance and attempts to imply that I could buy the trick for $5000. Some facts need to be clarified.
Russ, I hope the best in your endeavor and you have a good plan.
I brought the truck in my shop at work during lunch, cut a section of the hood out and took it down to my local paint store that we use. I got a quart of base, clear and all activators and hardeners needed for $110.
I found some nearly new LT285/75R16 tires still with nubs on them asking $250...hoping he'll take $200 for them.
I'm going to call the guy with the hood and bumper and see if I can pick those up, hoping he's not over the top with his pricing. Looks like he's parting out a 2000-2001 Blue Limited.
So far everything is going well. I'm going to get the truck home this weekend so I can pull the interior out and clean it, the carpet is so nasty but I think if I soak it and pressure wash it that it'll clean up.
Yes I'll do a before/after on the interior...it's one of the worst I've ever seen.
