What was the different styles of wood grain found on these trucks?
I ask cause since I cant find a proper '82 patterned horn housing with cruise I am thinking of finding a close wood grain wrap and try that out to restore my assembly to something better than the solid brown it is now.
That is a 78/79 horn pad. Notice the buttons are trapezoidal and different from 80-86. The correct rosewood horn pad with speed control is tough to find in good condition. I paid a premium for this one:
I also have two two junkyard specimens of this horn pad that are in kind of "fair minus" condition. Still might be better than what you have. I will post pictures a little later tonight and if you are interested you can send me a PM. The woodgrain pattern is mostly intact on both of them.
That's how mine should look lots of what I found on ebay when looking had the horn logo at the ends of the horn bar which mine doesn't have, or they have the blue oval in the middle which mine doesn't have either.
On the horn bar you can make out some vertical grains of the wood pattern but the main wood grain is just dull brown.
Not something I need to get right now but was thinking since I am getting a used trade in tool box next week for $100 I will be buying some wrap material to wrap it and make it look new looking figured I could get some wood grain and try wraping mine as a fix.
Thanks Ford F834. I was hoping someone would chime in to clarify. Mine is broken slightly on the right side otherwise i would do the faux stainless film treatment to match my dash panels, so I'm looking to replace the entire wheel. The speed control switches are in good shape so once i find the wheel i want, i'll pass this one on to an FTE member who needs the parts.
The ones with the trumpet icon at the end of the horn bar are from an Econoline van. Those often had a horizontal "oak" woodgrain. The blue oval is smooth, not with raised letters. There are a lot on eBay since vans don't tend to take as hard of a beating as the trucks. They are more common to find in good shape, especially from old motor homes.
Well, I was mistaken... I only have one rosewood horn pad with most of the print still on it. The other was peeling pretty badly. I must have been thinking of a 85/86 burlwood horn pad I have. This one is pretty rough in places but still looks like rosewood:
