The hard top on my Rubicon leaks so bad, a couple drips would be a welcome surprise!
Going back 25 years I have known of the removeable hardtops leaking. I think it is inherit to the design. My friend had his back to the dealer several times and the water still ran down the inside of the windshield and the unsightly layers of caulk built up deeper and deeper. He finally cleaned it all up and fixed it himself but the roof would never be able to be taken off again with the silicon holding everything together.
Try pushing up on the sunroof when going through the car wash. The pressure pushes down on the roof letting some water in. My daughters Range Rover is really bad about it. Just push up on it and it stops. Some cars are worse than others. The European cars seem worse.
Anyone else noticed this yet? I put blue tape around it and at one car wash seemed to solve the problem... Today it blew most of the tape off and water was coming through the overhead console... No Bueno. Got my dealer looking into any bulletins - but I'm sure there is nothing as of yet. Just don't want them disassembling the entire roof - it never is the same when stuff like that happens. Sucks.
You'd have to give up your cup of Joe while you watch your baby getting pampered! Seriously, this sounds like something everyone is going to have to deal with unless a solution is found.
Make sure that water does not run across the headliner and down the corner post. Maybe it has changed by now but I just had a new windshield put in (2nd in 16 years) due to water getting into the roof framework and running down the corner post and right onto the PCM. After a rain the truck became possessed andI would come out to the heater on, dome light on, loud buzzer under the dash and if not caught early, dead battery. Sometimes the radio, sometimes no speedometer, key in ignition chime even without the key and a flashing OD button indicated transmission fault and a check engine soon light. All without the key. First episode 10 years ago cost $500 in research and no results since it always stops after a day or so. Finally stone in windshield and it didn't come back until a couple of months ago.
Lesson learned: be careful of water in the cabin where it is not supposed to be. With today's reliance on computers (ECM, PCM) everything could be in jeopardy if that water migrates farther.
I can pressure wash the windows on my house, the door on my wife's Benz, and make them all leak. Does that mean they were made by Ford's moonroof manufacturer????
Come on guys.
Have to agree... Don't put a high presure nozzle 3" away from your window seals and expect nothing to get through. It happened a couple timnes in my 06 Eclipse with moon roof; it may not have sealed well enough when closed and went through wash. Though I too will be afraid to drive this beast through a normal drive through (looks like I will be visiting the local Truck wash often ).
I guess I got a good one, just went threw the high pressure wash here in town and yes my truck barely still fits in thank goodness. Mine didn't leak at all and I was crawling all over looking..
Why does everyone seem to think this is OK? You can tell by the responses its a common problem. "Gotta hold 1 hand up against the glass, and the other on the antennae...." WTF really people? Ford can build an awesome truck putting out 440hp/925 lb/ft torque and demand 80 grand for it but can't seem to stop a moonroof from leaking water at a car wash? I understand if the guy was standing there with a pressure washer against the seals but a freakin automated car wash? Those things don't spray the same spot for longer than a millisecond at best. Im discouraged and unfortunately my package its standard as well and will never be opened except by the dealer who has to stop the water from leaking through it! I guess I should just silicone it shut so it won't leak eh? NO! FORD FIX THIS!
....Im wrapping the roof in saran wrap thats it, problem solved.....
