Strange Van/truck E350
I was looking for a truck to tow a 5th wheel and came across
A van front with a sleeper and a 4x8 custom box . I have never seen one before
It has a 6.9 idi with a banks turbo , a nash overdrive , transmission cooler ,air bags on the rear , dually wheels .
Heres some questions for you guys if you can help me
1.i am guessing its a aftermarket conversion ?
2. the turbo only spools up to 5 pounds boost is it adjustable ?
3. is this a good tow unit (already bought it )
4.. any info on the platform would be greatly appreciated
I will post some pics tomorrow thank you for any help
yes it's custom
5 psi is low, but it might be all its going to make depending on which turbo it is. The early banks turbos that aren't wastegated are better paper weights than turbos, it very well might be what you have if someone installed the turbo early in the vans life.
Decent tow rig, a wastegated turbo and some fuel mods turn it into a good one.
the early banks non wastegated turbos are fantastic units, and can make over 15 psi boost. the problem with these units is the restrictive mufflers. open up the exhaust and they really perform.
those Van/pickups were custom units, and were made by a few different companies, one of the larger companies being Centurion
It should be making 10-12 psi, depending on what year instructions you are using.
It is not a great match for all out performance(hot side is too big, cold is too small) but it is still much better than N/A.
How smokey is it, and how are your egt's?
Heres some pictures i hope it works
egt I dont know the pyro meter is not working
The truck gives very little smoke and which pump do I turn up ?
Its in the shop now getting new kingpin bushings and a oil change
Also the glow plugs are not turning on for more than 1 second so it will not start with out a shot of ether
my mechanic gave it the once over this morning and said the rest of the truck seems solid but needs to drive it to tell more .
so if all is good after he finishes it I will begin the hunt for new tires and fixing the electrical problems IE: no horn , about 10 toggle switches I have no idea what they do .
Oh by the way I paid 2000 for the truck which I thought was good even if I have to spend 1k on repairs and right now I will still be under that (finger crossed)
