I had to do a valve job on my 1990 f350 460,(took heads to machine shop) does this usually affect valve clearance if they do the heads right? my truck has hyd. lifters- no adjustment - have to replace push rods. ive never done a non adjustable vehicle before thank for your help.
If you dont take more than .01 off I wouldnt worry about it, I would however check the valve clearance with a bleed down tool, It should be between .1 and .2 of an inch on the valve side
I had a valve job done on an engine (other than a 460). The shop ground the seats - and then ground a bit off the tips of the valves. This kept the rocker geometry the same.
i got my heads back yesterday and the machinist said it shouldnt be a problem either, but i think i'll check clearances anyway just for peace of mind. thank you guys for the input.
i dont know what the overall length is but my ford book says they have a pushrod .060 shorter and a pushrod .060 longer if you need to adjust valve clearance.
