Trying to replace my steering stabilizer and in the process I broke the nut close to the steering box. Would not budge so used a bar and well I broke it. Now I can't pop it out am I doing something wrong? Here are a few pics. I'm totally bummed nothing seems to be working for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks 87 will give it a shot in the morning. The way I feel I'm bound to break something else. Earlier i was installing some kicker speakers that I ordered from Cruthfield . I've been anxiously waiting for them when got home they were waiting for me. Took my time installing making sure the wires were hidden running thru the door and under the dash. Any way one of the speakers does not work right so will have to wait till tomorrow to call and complain.
X2. It's just a taper, hit the broken end of the bolt with a big pin punch and it'll pop out.
Try this ^^^^^^.
The last two stabilizer's i've replaced only required a solid whack on the end of the stud with a hammer to unseat them, using a punch at this point would be the same.
Thanks everyone been banging on it all morning and won't pop out. Tried the air hammer and that didn't work. If I heat it with a touch what part do I heat?? I don't want to damage the ball joint connected to steering box. I have the fork tool but the forks are not thick enough. Going to get a puller and see if that will work. BTW, Cruthfield service is awesome they are sending me another pair of speakers. Will keep u posted
Be never had a problem popping a tapered shaft doing what 87crewdually showed you to do. I just did this a few days ago on the tie rod end for the pitman arm. What size hammer are you using?
Heat up the drag link around the bolt itself. Keep heat away from bolt. You want to expand metal around the bolt so it gets bigger and will pop out easier.
Still can't get it out. Went and bought a pully and still can't get to work. I guess I use some heat and see what happens. I do have a good hammer and pin but it won't budge.
