I need to stick to a case I am sure will handle the torque from a stock 12-valve 6BT.

Stock 12 Valves don't really make that much torque. The newer half-ton cases are pretty big too.

x2. About the only way a stock 6bt will break anything is if you put a lot of weight in the bed, get it spinning really fast and dump the clutch. Any breakage that is a result of that is purely a result of it having a massive rotating assembly and a driver with questionable judgment, not massive amounts of torque. It makes 400ft*lbs stock which is about the same as what a EFI 460, 7.3 IDI or PSD puts out. The 1356 worked fine behind those. Pretty much anything you can replace the 1356 with will work just as well.

Any t-case which came bolted to a 460 or 7.3 would be fine by me. I have to wonder if Ford, more recently, has not selected t-cases for use in the V6 and small V8s which would not be up to the 460/7.3 standard.

Maybe it is apples/oranges, but I would not, for instance, use the Mazda 5-speed in my F350 project (or, a D44 rear).

OK, this is a manual t-case on a '99 F250 behind a 4R100. What's that rusty adapter-looking thing between the tranny and t-case? Is it the tranny tailstock?

Anyway, it seems like this is a candidate for bolting to my ZF5. Thoughts, please.

That's an NVG 271, if it bolts to the back of a 4R100 it will fit your ZF. I've never seen a cast iron adapter between the trans and tcase like that on a stock truck. If you get the tcase get the adapter too just in case you need it for some reason. Be sure to post some better pics if you get it.

It has to be a 5.4 truck. The 6.8 and 7.3 were different.
Also, if using this in a '91 or older truck you will lose the speedo.

As said above, If you have a Speedo cable you should just acquire a fixed output 1356 from a Bronco and forget about it. The 1356 is a stout case, and they're cheap. Find one, use it, find another for the shelf.

Shoot. Thanks. The truck I was looking at is a V10.
