Hello all I'm fairly new to engine buliding, my dad and I are going to rebuild a 360 ground up and I want to put some performance parts into it. My Dad has 40 years of mechanical expereince behind him and me... well this will be my second engine. Could someone please help me out with choosing the proper manifold, cam, crank and carb to maximize my performance out of the 360. Looking for about 350 h.p +. keep in mind that I don't want to break the bank. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
well, just my 2 cents here, but i think you'd be money ahead ( and power ) to spend the extra money and convert the 360 into a 390, you need the crank rods and pistons, and that extra 30 cubes i think will make it easier to get your 350 hp.
if you try to get 350 out of the 360, you most likely will need some head work, maybe a more radical cam, and then that stuff in itself costs money to accomadate as where a 390 i think can make that kinda power with out all that.......
probably your best bet for a manifold for somethin like that is the performer rpm from edlebrock, but their are other manifolds and a ton of opinions.......what ever you use, port match it to the intake ports.
as for a cam, that again depends on if its a 360 or 390 but theres a couple different cams in here it seems alot of people use and i'm sure as you surf through here you'll see posts for them.
other than that, make sure everythings to spec, use good rod bolts, hi volume oil pump, have it balanced, and thats about it as far as reliability goes.........
theres a book called ford performance and another one for rebuilding ford fe big blocks........follow these books for the details and quirks of building an fe and you'll have a sweet runnin fe..........
