Anyone out ther have a snowplow on your truck? IF so what do you think is the best plow and how much did yours cost and what was it? Im thinking about getting a plow for my 03 F250 5.4 but dont know what get yet i know that i dont want one with all the lights and stuff hanging on the front when the plow is off.
I currently run a Western on my SD, I like it, it moves the snow.
On all my other trucks, I frun Fischers, which in my opinion are a bit more stout.
Think I paid $2100 for the Western
I think just about all manufactures have some sort of quick connect frames now so your lights and pump will remain on the fram rather than the truck.
Blizzard makes a nice plow, it has extendable "wings" so you can get a nice clean up with no trails.
Hienicker (sp?) has a set up that hinges in the middle to allow back dragging.
Check out my gallery for pics of my winter time setup.
Without a doubt the diamond MDII is the best plow made today..I picked up a brand new used unit for $2000.00...Check out diamonds web site. I think the guy used it a couple of times...
The boss are neat but most guys do not like the V out here. It doesn'y have enough curl to the blade and they are real heavy..
From the standpoint of engineering and beefy and well made the diamond is the best..I did my research by going and looking at them all..Diamond has a 2 year warr on everything boss has 1. Its just a much neater package.
I got a 8 1/2 western.
I think I paid around $2400 installed by the Ford dealer. It was a used plow but they had put a new frame on the truck and new wiring harness and control box. Mine looks like it has to be around 4 or 5 years old. It works great. I also went out and bought a set of wheels for it for easy movablity in the garage, they also help when mounting it to the truck. I also don't have a backdrag. I'll get some pictures of the wheels up in my gallery later today. They are a back saver one guy can easiely mount the plow with them within 2 minutes
You can always try ebay to get a good price. I always see them on there.
I have an 8' Fisher with the Fishstick controller on my 2003 F250SD and the 5.4. Works great, knocks the New England snow around no problem. Cost me about $3500 with the Minute Mount 2, but it's worth it. On and Off in about 3 min.
Well the skinnier the tire, the better it cuts through the snow, also around here they use road salt by the dump truck full, so aluminum wheels would take a beating and also my plows wouldn't touch the ground with the 38's on it
With a plow you want a stock or slightly wider tire the more sipes the more traction...Snow sticks to snow. Skinny tires are good for 2 ft of snow. 10-12 inches of a good snow tire like nokia will take you anywhere, as long as the plow goes first..
Actully the skinnier the tire the better. The biggest reason is that it puts more weight over a small area, cause of that the tires are able to grip the suface better.
Have you ever seen a drw truck running around in the snow with no weight in the back?
