Have a customer coming in with a truck that has a cracked head...He's looking to replace the pair as the truck has close to 200k on it. Is anyone doing a good enough job, besides Ford, remanning them where I don't have to worry about doing the job twice?
What he said! They aren't cheap but they are the consumate experts on rebuilding these heads. Also O-ringing is an added safety measure to positivley solve the head gasket issue (as some have experienced HG leaks AFTER Apr studs and new gaskets using non o-ringed heads).
I just put 2 remans on an 05 that was making coolant outa diesel fuel. Paid 1100 and change a side and came with gaskets and all these extra long bolts I didn't use from ford.

could you see the cracks by the cups or see water dripping in the cup while inj was out?
How does he know they are cracked, they already off?
Truck was in here a while ago making fuel, truck had fuel in the coolant, pulled the injectors on the passenger side and 1 of the cups were cracked, cant remember which 1 though.
You could always try to just repair the cup rather than replace the head. BulletProof Diesel has had a cup repair kit on the market now for a couple years and I haven't seen a repeat failure once the repair was done....it's not cheap but it's cheaper than heads, but it's of course up to your customer. For an actual head replacement I won't use anyone other than UCF, I've seen too many problems with the other suppliers.
There is a repair cup just for cracks there, comes with a longer cup and longer inj lower piece and if the crack keeps growing the longer cup is already inplace, cheap fix .

Yes and when I went to pull that injector, the holdown clamp blew apart and had a heck of a time getting it out. decided 2 heads because machine work and seals etc was more than half the cost anyway.

Sarge
I have to ask was it the cup or the cast iron of the head that
was doing the leaking?
Also on the BPD repair I was under the impression that was only for
fuel cracks and not coolant.
