My truck is 94 F150 2wd, 5.0, auto (4R70W), 3.55 ratio, 3" Rancho lift with 11.5x32" tires.
The engine runs good and I only drive it to the desert, the dump, and when I'm pulling my 3000 lb 5th wheel. In attempt to keep from downshifting to first on big grades, I want to change the rear ratio from the stock 3.55, and I'm wondering what ratio I should try. Any experience or insight to share ?
Am I going down the right path looking at changing the ratio, or should I be looking at different mods first ?
If you want a little more than the 4.10, but not as much as the 4.56 you can get a ford motorsports 4.30 ratio for the 8.8 axel.
You can only put this ratio in a two-wheel drive, because no one else makes a front axel 4.30 ratio for Dana 44's, 50's, or 60's.
You don’t have to worry though cause you have a 2x4.
