Hey all, I was wondering if one could use a older C6(pre '77) in place of a newer C6(post '77) and vise versa. I have 2 vehicles with C6's and I was wondering if I grab a spare if it would work for either vehicle.
If the bell housing pattern is the same, and the tail shaft length is the same. It should work. Be cautious of some older 60's and 70's C6's that may have came from cars and maybe trucks not being drilled and tapped to take the neutral safety switch that screws onto the side of the transmission that's actuated by the shift shaft on the side like the newer ones do.
Bellhousing to the output/tailshaft on a 2wd tranny, bellhousing to transfercase mate up surface on a 4x4 tranny. I talked with a guy doing swaps on a late 70's f250, and he had to get different driveshafts because he had put a 4x4 c6 in place that was a little bit different length. Don't know what the different applications are for the shorter or longer versions.
