Antifreeze

I remember reading a few months ago about the better antifreeze to use in our 70s truck but I can not find it again. I have been looking since Thursday. Will someone please give the link to it again or tell which brand and from where. Time to do it before fall gets here.

Thank you in advance. Chris

I've been using Prestone for years without any problems....I use 2 gallons Prestone with 2 gallons distilled water.

Just my opinion as I haven't seen that article.

Would you be talking about Evans Waterless Coolant?

The standard green antifreeze, Prestone or other, is fine. It does need changed every 2-3 years for best protection.

I like and use Prestone "extended life universal" for longer protection, especially with an aluminum radiator. I mix with reverse osmosis water from Walmart which is readily available and cost effective. I am sure there are other "universal extended life" brands that are good also.

The Prestone has worked well in my hot rod, Dent, tractor and DD's for some time... eg. no visible corrosion inside an AL radiator after 10 years.

Thank you for the responses. The article talked about different brands and the "this one" seem to work the best. It indicated that this one was straight old fashioned green antifreeze. Not the kind "engineered" to work with all the other brands.

I just don't want the newer antifreeze because they like to eat gaskets or so I've read. Thanks.

I like three gallons Prestone green and three gallons reverse osmosis water. Super-cooling systems hold 6 gallons

You may be referring to some of the orange "GM-only" stuff. The details are a little murky, but I remember reading an article several years ago about some brand specific antifreeze and how it will gel-up and cause all sorts of hate and discontent. I'm pretty sure it was that orange GM twaddle.

Regular old glycol-based green stuff is your friend in an older vehicle.

Yup, GM's "Dex-Cool" had issues with eating gaskets.

If you can, before deciding on an antifreeze, try to get pH levels on the ones available. The degree of acidity may have an effect on your cooling system. So far, the least acidic I have found is Peak amongst the major brands. I'm still checking. Some could make a battery.
