What is a good shock for a 2001 Excursion 2wd. Have been using Monroe Reflex and my wife isnt happy with them. She did get new tires which are load range E vs the D range she had on there which will have a rougher ride. What would you guys/girls recommend for replacement shocks. Thanks for all the input.
What ride or handeling charterisitcs does your wife not like about your current setup ?
What size and pressure are you running on the new tires ?
What size and pressure did you run on your old tires ?
Answer those questions and tell me what ride charterisitcs the wife would like and then we can make at least an informed guesstimate on a shock she may like.
Just bought a set of Pathfinder Sport S A/T tires in 265/75r16. Tire pressure is 65psi. She wants the ride to be smooth and not feel every bump per her words. I was running 60 in our old tires but that was the max for them and they were load range D. I told them to put 80 in these but I just checked and they stopped at 65.

before we get into shock selection lets get the tire pressure correct.
Tire pressure is dictated by the size or volume of the tire and the load that it needs to support.
Your 2wd Excursion gross Axle weight rating ( listed on the Door sticker ) is front 4400 and rear 5250.
given that, when your Ex is fully loaded and running the 265/75/16 tire would require a pressure of 45 front and 55 rear.
check your door sticker and it will confirm the pressure for this size tire.
given all that, lower your pressure to the correct PSI will not only give the vehicle a more "connected" feel when steering but also reduce the harshness or felling every crack in the road.
If your springs have sagged and you are hitting the bump stops that will certainly give a harsh ride.
if you can get a pic of your front and rear bump stops we can see what is going on.
there is a ongoing effort to establish what the original factory ride height was when these were new so If you would like to contribute to the effort it would be appreciated.
Thanks for the info. I will try different pressures and see how she does. Ive always ran all my E rated tires at 80psi.
that would support 13,500 pounds or about 50% more then your excursion weighs fully loaded. no need to put up with that hard of a pressure if you are not carrying 13,500 pounds.
