I made a lot of critical mistakes during my young adult life that had left me broke and creditless(so much so that Columbia House turned me down). My "JUNK" is a reminder of those days of where I never want to be again AND of those days that I never want to forget(actually had some good times during those mistakes). This is the real reason why I keep my truck looking rough and "JUNKY".

The people that ride around with me in my truck do it because they like me. There is no pretentious air about them, as in the ones that ride in my other cars.

Finally, I could not see using a newer truck to haul the stuff I needed.

What is Columbia house?

Day it was pulled from the field

Junk is a relative term........one mans junk is another's treasure.....

Yes I love my junk....yes I have junk in my trunk and the junk I drive is always better than those walking.

I like to think I have the ability to turn said junk into treasure....building means more than buying.

Columbia House was a mail order outfit strong in the 70s and 80s where you could sign up, get 10 free records, cassettes or CDs. The catch was buying 6 more at their 'regular price' which was about double what you paid at the local record store. Still, I had fun doing it. Once you finished your end, you could sign up again. THEY NEVER REFUSED YOU! Well,....almost

As for my "JUNK", here you go...

Never owned junk and never dated trashy women. Might have had cars no one else wanted at the time, and they might not have behaved like everyone would have wished them to (come to think of it, some of the women fit with that too) but there was good in all of them, I liked them, and to me they were never junk. I'm even including the '58 VW that barely ran, the '45 ****** with the exploded transmission, the '66 Rambler, even the '64 Tempest with the monster dent in the left rear so big you could toss a beer can into the trunk without opening it.

I've always preferred junk. When I was married there would always be something "late model and sensible" in the garage for the wife and kids, but my daily drivers were always older stuff.

One time I was showing my boys some faded photographs of cars and trucks I had before they were born...CJ7s, a 66 SS396, a string of BB 4-sp A bodies and then later Mopar B bodies...coupla Road Runners, a GTX, a 3rd gen Charger, etc. My youngest said "You had nicer cars in HIGH SCHOOL than you do now!". I said "Yeah, but now I've got YOU...waaay better."...typical dad response, but he was right.

I started driving old stuff cuz it was cool. Sometimes I think about my first car, a BB Monte Carlo...it was only 10 yrs old when I bought it, but seemed old to me.

I continued to drive old junk because I had to. Now I drive old junk because I love to. Feels righteous, smells good, and I like rolling up my own windows, locking my door w a key, giving it a good pump-shot to get it started, and, if I'm being 100% honest...the admiring looks, comments, and smiles from the dudes my age who couldn't dodge the mini-van bullet.

When I bought my current dent I wasn't looking for a project, a classic, or a beater. I was looking at Yukons and Tahoes from M.Y. 2000 and up (I pay cash and that's where my budget put me). But this 76 jumped at me and like a terrible song that you can't get out of your head (whatever you do, do NOT think of Cher singing "Believe" right now) and so I went to meet the seller, cut him off at the knees, and drove this critter home. Peeking out from behind it is the $400 Mazda 4x4 (cut that poor guy off at the knees, too) that's been my boring, yet utterly dependable, DD for over 3 yrs...

Sorry for the long stream-of-consciousness post. Sometimes I write conversationally and what would have been a series of 15-20 second anecdotes or comments in an actual conversation turn into a huge wall-o-text monologue.

Seriously tho, thank you. This truck has been on my "short list" for, no *****, 35 years. You almost never see em for sale, almost never see one that's drivable for a reasonable price, and NEVER see one that's all of the above PLUS 4wd AND a 4-sp. When I say I cut this poor guy off at the knees, I mean it. I've never been that aggressive with a seller before, never come on that strong. But I really wanted this truck, he really needed to sell it, I really didn't have his asking price, and I really didn't like him much...so it all kinda came together...

I hear ya...I was just kiddin'. The best feature of the Maz is the fact that I have exactly 0 impulses to mess with it, lift it, modify it in any way. Besides being reliable as an atomic clock, that has been it's #1 attribute in this time of personal financial crisis. Once I get the dent sorted completely for dd status, I plan to sell the Maz to a similarly economically disadvantaged (that means recently SCREWED in a divorce) individual. Pay it forward, and all that.

Last dent sold off due to economic crisis...

Ya hate to do it, but sometimes other stuff gets priority. This might be my Thelma And Louise truck, though...I'll take it offa cliff before I let em take me down...

Thanks! Those are 16.5s. The rubber is Pitbull rockers. 37s. Don't know other dimensions off hand but send me a PM if you'd like to know!

Do it. When I bought my dually, the guy selling it was selling it because of his divorce. I gave him something like $300 over his asking price because I'm a child of divorce and I know how it is.
