Why do you enjoy driving junk?
1. Dependability: ZERO computer controls. No sensors, CPUs, ECMs,PCMs, injectors, detectors, modules or miles of wiring to fail on me.
2. Simplicity: I can fix almost anything in under a half hour with three basic wrenches and a screwdriver using junkyard parts.
3. Anonymity:The government isn't tracking me: NO OBD II, no ONSTAR, no datalink, no GPS, no intrusive modules tracking my driving habits, where ive been or where Im going.
4. Power and response: Runs better than a new car: Not saddled with miles of electronic controls. Driving a well tuned, carbureted V8 feels like freedom. Loads of power, no electronic hesitation, no restrictive catalyctic converters and crap. Start and go, smile while driving.
5. Finances: If my truck gets wrecked, I go buy another one just like it for 500-2500 dollars. If it breaks down, I fix it for under a 100 bucks using ju8nkyard parts. Cant do THAT with a new car.
6. Ease of use: No touch screen, no GPS, no looking for *****, buttons, swithches and controls. Ive got 5 basic dashboard functions that are easy to reach, marked well and are easy to use. Start, turn signals lights, wipers and heat. Horn sometimes.
7. Pride: While some so-called "americans" treasonously send their money to the CEOs of countries like Japan, Germany and Korea by buying their low-class junk cars, I show my pride by driving a fully American vehicle, built by American hands using American tools and parts.
8. Safety: What would you rather be in a collision? A feminine Suburuwagenyota WRX GTI, or a solid framed, cast iron block, solid axled, heavy duty Vietnam-era steel bodied mans truck? I don't know about you, but I choose TRUCK>
9. Environmental responsibility: The environmental equity was paid on this truck nearly 40 years ago. It is 100 percent recycled. It uses mostly recycled parts. Its not sitting in a junkyard or landfill polluting, it is being used. Single digit fuel economy means fewer and better planned trips, and only when necessary. It still passes emissions testing yearly.
There are more pros than cons. I climb in my crappy new SUV after spending a few hours driving my truck, and I suddenly get depressed. They just suck.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
When I fill fuel in Old Blue, about half the time someone comes over to talk about her and compliment her. In a parking lot I can over hear people saying "Dad had one like that" or "Uncle Joe had one that was red" and they continue to reminisce as they walk into the store.
I can take Ka'Bluey out around town, and always get a compliment, or at least turn a few heads. If they like it or not, he'll turn a few heads.
Every now and then, I may, get a compliment on my 2013 that I keep clean and shiny.

I made a lot of critical mistakes during my young adult life that had left me broke and creditless(so much so that Columbia House turned me down

). My "JUNK" is a reminder of those days of where I never want to be again AND of those days that I never want to forget(actually had some good times during those mistakes). This is the real reason why I keep my truck looking rough and "JUNKY".The people that ride around with me in my truck do it because they like me. There is no pretentious air about them, as in the ones that ride in my other cars.
Finally, I could not see using a newer truck to haul the stuff I needed.
