Most "low RPM" truck cams are hardly worth upgrading over stock cams. You stick a truck cam in with 4.56 or 4.88 gears, you're just going to end up with a truck that runs out of steam real fast. 4.56 gears would be beyond fine with that higher RPM cam.

So I guess now the question is, is the rev limit and shift points something that can be moved via having someone tune the truck? I did plan to have it dyno tuned once I get everything sorted out.

Or would it be possible to replace the stock f150 ecu with a fox body ecu that is from a 5.0 automatic car?
Yes, custom tuning can solve both the shift point issue and the rev-limit issue. You cannot swap a Foxbody computer, since your truck is a '96. It has to use a 96 and newer computer, and by '96 the Mustang had switched to the 4.6

Lew's truck has 4.56 gears IIRC.

I was thinking the same thing about the stock truck cam and 4.56+ gears, I don't think that would help me achieve what I'm trying to do at all. Thanks for the info on the fox body computer, I didn't even think about it needing to be obd2 compatible so yeah that wouldn't work, I will just have it fixed in the tune when I am able. Thanks for your help!

That's what I was thinking, I have been thinking about going with 4.56 but I do drive this 30 miles on the highway when I decide to take it to work and I'm not sure how well the 4.56's will like highway cruising. I was thinking I would use the 4.10's and if highway speeds gave me a managable rpm then I would think about going with a 4.56.

The 5200 RPM redline isn't that bad, really. But like I said, to get the most out of it, you will have to manually shift it 1-2-D, but it's not a big deal.
