After upgrading the heads I can't get the ALT and PS belts to stop slipping at anything more than 3/4 throttle due to increased HP. Especially noticeable between shifts above 3500 RPM after full throttle. I have replaced the belts, cleaned all the pulley groove surfaces with 220 grit sandpaper removing all traces of paint, corrosion, etc. eliminating the shiny surface from the previous wear. These are the original stock pulleys and accessories with no misalignment issues.
V-belt designs should be able to hold the HP I'm making base on what the high performance engines of the late 60's. My next move is either buy new pulleys (expensive) or get a serpentine set-up off of a 87-93 5.0 (more expensive).
Update....After digging into this much deeper, I do have an alignment issue which is probably causing the slipping. The face of AFR heads have a slightly different angle than previous heads causing both PS and ALT to be out of alignment. After speaking with the helpful folks a CVF Racing about their pulley/bracket this is a fairly common issue when mixing older (late 60's, early 70's) Ford accessories and brackets and newer heads. CVF doesn't make a bracket to fix this type of misalignment. I may just modify the current brackets.
