4WD conversion

Is it possible to convert a 1970 F-100 Custom in automatic to 4WD? I'm hoping the twin I beam won't be a problem.

It is a question that pops up from time to time: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...onversion.html

BTW, if you Google your question and type FTE into your search you will get a "more results from" option which will give you hundreds of FTE threads. Saves time and redundant questions.

It's possible but it is highly dependent on time, tools, facilities, money, and know-how.

How wrench-worthy are you?

Not at all, I don't intend to wrench it now. Just need to know if there's any sort of technical snag that would make it impossible no matter how experienced the mechanic is.

Just about anything is possible. Peruse some of the build threads here and you will see. There are some pretty impressive fabricators on this site. Where there's a will...

Well, a mechanic is different than a fabricator.. the latter is what you really need.

Technical snags? Many will come up without proper planning.. good thing it's being done but it is definitely not a bolt-in deal

There are links in the Tech Info Compilation on 4WD conversions... please review. Use the link in my sig...

Well, for what most shops get for hourly rate, you'd be money ahead to just go buy a 4x4. It's been done but even if they had done it many times before, it could still go over 100 billable hours plus parts, like over 10 grand in a heartbeat.
I've done a few, just find a donor 4x4 and use the whole chassis, switch your body and engine in.
